About NAFC

The National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) is a business unit of AFAC – the National Council for fire and emergency services in Australia and New Zealand. AFAC is a not-for-profit membership organisation supporting the sector to create safer, more resilient communities, and driving national consistency through collaboration, innovation and partnerships.

NAFC activities are governed by the NAFC Strategic Committee, a sub-committee of the AFAC Board. The Committee contains executive representation from each of the states and territories, ensuring better utilisation of specialised, highly mobile aerial firefighting resources, through national collaboration and cooperation

NAFC’s Strategic Framework identifies directions over the next five years for NAFC to support the fire and emergency sector in providing the best possible service to their communities. Further information is available at NAFC Strategic Framework 2020-25. A new Framework is intended for 2026.

NAFC employs a team of eight towards the business, procurement, contract services, safety and research objectives outlined in the Framework, supplemented by expertise from the wider AFAC in its ARENA software hosting and development, IT and finance, and executive leadership.
